Updated: Sep 8, 2023

Azka's story is one of courage and determination. Born and raised in a traditional Muslim family in Sandila, UP, Azka was always hesitant to speak her mind. But her life changed when she joined MLMF during the peak of the pandemic in 2021. For the first time, she found a safe space where she could express her thoughts without fear of judgment. As she progressed through the program, Azka realized her passion for addressing gender-based discrimination and menstrual health and hygiene. However, she faced challenges in her personal life, where she was discouraged from speaking up and asking questions, especially as a young woman. But she was determined to take control of her life and pursue her dreams. With the support of MLMF, Azka attended a five-day residential workshop in Jaipur, Rajasthan, which was a significant milestone for her. Azka's journey is an inspiring example of how small steps towards self-empowerment can lead to significant change. By breaking free from the limitations placed on her, she has become a powerful force for positive transformation in her community and beyond This experience taught her that anything is possible if she takes control of her life and follows her dreams. Today, Azka is a Youth Fellow of MLMF in UP, working to empower adolescent girls to speak their minds and create positive change. From being an introvert to becoming a confident leader, Azka's journey is a testament to the power of perseverance and self-belief. Through her work with adolescent girls in schools across UP, Azka is creating spaces for young women to share their experiences and challenge the status quo. Her dedication to addressing menstrual health and hygiene reflects a deep understanding of the ways in which taboos and superstitions can hold women back. By empowering girls with knowledge and resources, she is paving the way for a future where women's health and rights are fully realized.
